BY MONSIEUR is the work of Joe, a leather artisan trained in Switzerland and Korea, with a foundation in product design. From his Vancouver workshop, he creates bespoke and very limited-series leather goods defined by precision, classic lines, and a modern quiet-luxury sensibility.

Step inside the studio of Joe, the product designer and Swiss-trained leather artisan behind BY MONSIEUR.
Leathercraft, to Joe, is a conversation between material, hand, and the person who carries it — a dialogue that shapes every piece he creates. Launched in 2022, BY MONSIEUR has cultivated a discreet but dedicated following on the West Coast, and was recently featured in the international magazine We Are Makers.
From his small, intimate Vancouver workshop, Joe creates bespoke and very limited-series leather goods defined by precision, classic lines, and a modern quiet-luxury sensibility. Each piece is handcrafted from premium leathers sourced from some of the world’s finest tanneries. Specializing in custom commissions, he carefully guides each project from initial sketch to finished piece, ensuring every detail tells a story.
Visitors are invited to touch premium leathers, and see a behind-the-scenes glimpse of his process. With space accommodating up to six guests at a time, Joe will gladly answer questions about leatherwork, materials, and techniques, offering a personal, intimate perspective on contemporary leathermaking.
This Open Studio visit is a rare opportunity to connect with a maker whose work balances artistry, precision, and understated luxury. Fluent in English, Korean, and French, and a proud member of the Craft Council of British Columbia, Joe brings an open and welcoming approach to every project.
