Obj:Obj is an annual exhibition highlighting the work of independent designers practicing in Vancouver. The show illustrates the diverse material and conceptual practices of Vancouver’s contemporary design scene. For this year’s show each designer's work is contextualized beside a secondary object selected by curators Annaka Hoelk and Nolan Talbot-Kelly in partnership with Cave Gallery.

The pairings create a dialogue between each designer’s piece and a cross section of global design spanning contemporary classics, collectible antiques, found objects and culturally significant objects from around the world. Connections are threaded in relation to formal elements, materials and process in an attempt to situate Vancouver design within the larger global narrative of design and objects throughout history. We hope that these pairings spark curiosity, inspire thought and ultimately reveal something unique– and perhaps hidden– about each designer’s piece.
