The Ryze invites you into an evening at the intersection of sound, visual art, and collective making — designed in response to Michelle Pearson Clarke's exhibition at Artspeak Gallery.
Rather than background, the soundscape operates as an interpretive mechanism: shaping the room's atmosphere, pacing, and attention. Throughout the experience, we guide participants through the concept of collective memory — how cross-modal perception, sensation, and shared experience can be held, shaped, and made tangible.
Within this environment, participants are invited into a hands-on design workshop, working with provided materials to build a collective vessel in response to the exhibition and its emotional resonance. The workshop unfolds in dialogue with the sound — each informing the other as the evening takes shape. The process is as much the outcome as the object itself — an exercise in relational design, shared intuition, and building together.
This event is presented by The Ryze (www.theryze.ca/), a project of JOMA Studios (https://jomastudios.ca/).
The public will have the opportunity to participate in the listening experiences on two separate occasions: Sept. 19 & Sept. 26.
For the duration of the festival, we will also have a temporary installation located at the Artspeak Off-site that further explores these themes.
